SAV Orientation Event covered by Shaurya Dahiya

Shriya, the Recruitment Team and the New Volunteers
Finally the post you've all been waiting for!

The Orientation Event of the Speaking Archeologically Volunteer Wing, the fruit of the efforts of our talented recruiters,  was held on August 13 at the Chandigarh Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10-C, Chandigarh.Panel member, Shriya Gautam joined in the team at 11 am at the Museum Entrance, with an ethnoarchaeological dress discussion drill for the new hands and a good news for the old one: she won't be alone on the next recruitment drive (but more on that later!)
It was tine to show those who had joined the beautiful world of archaeology at the base source itself.

As soon as a quick headcount was done, the tickets were bought and the participants were advised to fasten their seatbelts for a tour in the world of antiquity. The twenty new history enthusiast, along with five senior volunteers of the Volunteer Wing, headed by Shriya herself, found themselves standing in an open alley, surrounded by the artefacts of a life much before their time. It was decided that the senior members would act guides for the new enthusiasts to this new world.

The mentors were given a topic of their choosing based on their interest and calibre. The division ended up to be as follows-
Metal Sculpture Section
Chandigarh Museum
1.    Tarannum Caur : Stone Sculpture
2.    Athira Jamwal: Paintings section, Pahari School of Art
3.    Vidhushi Chandel: Painting section, Mughal School of Art
4.    Vedant Chandel: Coinage and numismatics
5.    Anubhavpreet Kaur Nirankari: Metal Sculptures

The mentors were then assigned certain students, who were supposed to be familiarised with the respective fields. Once a group finished, the mentors were interchanged and thus, the young minds of MCM DAV College and DAV College, Sector 10 Chandigarh, got a whole tour and the gist of life as an SAV archaeologist.

In the end, while wrapping up the session Shriya introduced them to the rules and regulations of the organisation and requested the interested ones to register their names. A huge chunk of the freshers registered themselves that day. The event turned out to be a huge success, thanks to the tireless efforts of the brilliant recruiters.

We welcome our new hands to the SAV Family with open arms and hope you find all you’ve been looking for from the experiences ahead.
